Chapter 8

"Holy shit!" Tiffany said, sitting at the kitchen table with Melissa. "You're bringing the guy here?"

"Yes," Melissa said. "He'll be here Saturday night."

"But you guys can babysit for me Friday?" Tiffany said. "Are you sure?"

"Sure we can," Melissa agreed. "We'd love to."

"Well only if it's no trouble. It sounds like you've got a lot of things to juggle this weekend," Tiffany said.

Melissa couldn't help but laugh. "That's the idea of having more than one," she shrugged.

"What?"

"Having a lot of things to juggle…" Melissa waited for Tiffany to catch on.

"Oh you're just terrible," Tiffany waved her off, finally getting the joke.

Melissa looked at her with a frown. "Look me in the eye, Tiffany. Tell me you wouldn't juggle a few things for a chance at that."

"Okay, okay," Tiffany threw up her hands in surrender. "I'd be juggling, jiggling, and jangling everything I could get my hands on."

Melissa laughed again. "That's what I'm saying," she said. "It's going to be amazing."

"I hope it's all you ever wanted," Tiffany said. "And I hope you're both happy."

"Thank you," Melissa said. "How about you?"

"How about me, what?" Tiffany asked.

"Are you going to try out your new technique on your date?" Melissa asked.

"A lady doesn't tell," Tiffany tried to hold out, hoping Melissa wouldn't press her on the matter.

Melissa stared her down until she broke.

"Okay, alright," Tiffany said. "I bought three packages of Polish sausage on Tuesday afternoon if that tells you anything."

"Aha!" Melissa said triumphantly. "So you are going to try it!"

"Maybe," Tiffany said, trying to defer.

"Better be careful," Melissa wagged a finger at her. "You're going to make that boy fall in love with you."

"Now you're just being silly," Tiffany said, waving her off again.

Melissa shrugged. "You never know."

"We're taking it slow," Tiffany informed her. "We're not quite as racy as you two."

"Did you ever do anything about birth control?" Melissa asked. "Are you being careful?"

"I bought a bunch of condoms," Tiffany said. "I tried some on the sausages, but none of them taste very good."

Melissa chuckled again. "Well, it's really up to you and how much you trust your partner on oral," she said. "I was thinking more about avoiding pregnancy."

"Well, yeah," Tiffany agreed. "I'll probably have him wear one next time. I tried those pills when I was younger, and it was no good."

"Yeah?"

"Oh yeah," Tiffany nodded emphatically. "I grew a mustache like some kind of goddamned Yeti."

Melissa couldn't help but laugh.

"So I'll probably ask him to wear one…if it happens again…you know?"

"I know," Melissa nodded. "And I'm pretty sure it'll happen again. I think Bernard really likes you."

"Do you think so?" Tiffany asked genuinely.

"I do," Melissa said. "Think about it. He already got in your pants, right?"

Tiffany nodded in response.

"And he still wants to go out with you," Melissa pointed out. "So you know he's not one of those hit-it-and-quit-it kinds of guys."

"I guess that makes sense," Tiffany agreed.

"Sure it does," Melissa confirmed. "If that was all he was after, why call you again? Unless…it's more than just sex. Maybe he just genuinely wants to be with you?"

"Is it too much to hope for?" Tiffany asked.
